Amber Electric's mission is to shift Australia to 100% renewable electricity. With support from the South Australian government’s Demand Management Trials program, they’ve made meaningful progress towards this goal.
Amber has successfully developed and deployed the automated demand response technology, SmartShift™, to hundreds of South Australian households, saving them thousands of dollars cumulatively, and shifting energy consumption from fossil fuels to renewables.
The project goal was to test and build SmartShift™, using real-time wholesale price signals to automate distributed energy resources
(DERs), saving customers money while increasing renewable energy consumption.
SmartShift™ was built for home batteries, electric hot water and pool pumps, and has onboarded more than 350 South Australian homes.
Initial results suggest annual savings of up to $550 for hot water and $350 for pool pumps compared to the default market offer, and upwards of $500 for batteries.
Based on the success of the project, SmartShift™ has now launched across the national electricity market as well as Amber for Batteries.
