Transport is Australia’s third largest source of emissions and presents a particular challenge to the mining industry.

Vision Electric is a cross-sector partnership with OZ Minerals, logistics supplier Qube, and Australian start-up Janus Electric (“Janus”), undertaking an operational trial of exchangeable battery technology that eliminates charging time and can be retrofitted into existing haulage fleets.

The trial will put the world’s largest on-road battery electric truck through its paces, spending 12 months at OZ Minerals Carrapateena mine to prove the operation of equipment in some of the harshest conditions in the world.

By providing certainty that the technology can meet operational requirements, generating reliable emissions reduction data and demonstrating optionality, the trial can help Australia’s heavy haulage industry de-risk investment in decarbonisation initiatives, and rapidly advance emissions reduction.
