A tailings storage facility of approximately 700 hectares had dried and was generating dust, which was creating an environmental hazard for the facility as well as the surrounding community. Initial efforts to suppress this dust using traditional methods failed.

In partnership with the client, Erizon was tasked to conceive and implement a safe, long-term, and cost-effective solution.

Through scientific innovation and lab testing, Erizon was able to develop a solution that would achieve long-term dust suppression on site through revegetation despite conditions hostile to vegetation growth.

Beyond this scientific breakthrough, Erizon also developed a safe and cost-effective method of applying the product through purpose-built tracked vehicles.

Erizon's solution created its own microclimate which was then monitored in real-time with custom air quality analysis equipment and drones.

The project has thus far been successful in curtailing dust and is most likely the largest project of this type undertaken anywhere in Australia.

A combination of scientific and engineering innovation has allowed us to create a custom solution to a major environmental issue. This has had, thus far, immense measurable impact on dust levels in the local environment both on-site and in the surrounding communities.

The solutions we engineered can now be used on other sites across Australia which will limit expensive and environmentally unfriendly aircraft use, and the scientific method we used to create the vegetation solution is repeatable and adaptable.

We decided to nominate as a South Australian company making a big impact on the wider Australian environment. We want to showcase South Australian ingenuity in solving escalating global environmental challenges.
