Project: 'Growing our Own' skilled workforce

Winner: Community, Resources sector

Uni Hub Spencer Gulf is a local not-for-profit organisation established in 2017 by the Upper Spencer Gulf Common Purpose Group to help ‘grow our own’ skilled workforce.

In partnership with the Commonwealth Government and local Councils, Uni Hub operates university study centres in Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Kadina, with new sites being established in Port Lincoln and Roxby Downs. Services are provided free of charge to any student studying with an Australian University.

Uni Hub also partners with universities willing to invest in local delivery of qualifications to help address the region’s professional workforce shortages including engineering, business and accounting, teaching, nursing and allied health.

In response to the needs of local industry Uni Hub is leading several workforce development initiatives, including an Associate Degree in Engineering (Australia’s first Higher Apprenticeship), university professional development courses, and career development for school leavers.

Uni Hub currently supports over 200 university students across the Spencer Gulf region and has recently delivered Australia’s first Higher Apprenticeship in partnership with RESA and CQ University Australia for the much needed Associate Degree in Engineering.
