Exploration and mining in South Australia.

South Australia has rich and diverse land resources suitable for multiple land uses. A key part of the Department for Energy and Mining’s role is to support the community understand exploration and mining regulatory processes and their rights.

Public feedback expressed during consultations on the Mining Regulations in 2020 indicated a desire for more accessible visual resources in plain English. Accordingly, the department has developed a series of short animated videos that provide simple, clear and transparent information about aspects of exploration and mining regulation that are often misunderstood and cause concern.

The videos are available on the department’s new mineral resources ‘Communities and land access’ webpage and can be used by all stakeholders to support their interactions. The videos explain regulatory processes, rights and obligations for related parties under the Mining Act 1971, as well as where communities and landowners can find support when interacting with explorers, miners or quarry companies.

A feedback survey is provided for each video on the Communities and land access webpage. Information from the survey will be used to improve how the department can better explain the exploration and mining sector. The department plans to develop more mineral resource related materials to further support stakeholders over the next year.
