The diverse bank of projects includes geophysical programs, research collaboration, exploration drilling, groundwater, proof of concept and Aboriginal employment. The grants range from $74,300 to $325,000 with the government matching the proposed company expenditure.

‘The resources sector underpins the state’s economy and the latest round of the ADI funding is designed to position our state as a leading supplier of the critical minerals of the economy of the future,’ said Minister for Energy and Mining, Dan van Holst Pellekaan.

‘The initiative reflects the changing drivers in exploration, with a heavy emphasis on new technologies, scientific endeavour and upskilling to boost discovery and reduce risk.

‘It also fosters meaningful employment and upskilling of Aboriginal employees and businesses by part funding exploration employment and related formal training opportunities.’

Funded through the Economic Business Growth Fund, the $10 million ADI runs to 2022. The first round in 2020 included $3 million in funding across 14 proposals. Round three will be initiated end November 2021 with a call for expressions of interest for internal merits review by the Department for Energy and Mining. Projects approved through this stage will be invited to make a detailed submission.
