Dr Paul Heithersay, Chief Executive, Department for Energy and Mining

Today, the Premier of South Australia announced the State’s border restrictions will lift from Monday 20 July 2020. This is a great result for South Australia.

The mining, oil, gas, energy and METS sectors’ commitment to revising business approaches and implementing comprehensive COVID-19 infection control protocols have contributed significantly to sustaining the State’s economy and flattening the curve.

As we heard from both the Prime Minister and the Premier today, each state and territory agreed at the National Cabinet to finalise its own arrangements. The South Australian Department for Energy and Mining will continue to monitor the national arrangements closely and to advocate for our critical resources and energy companies.

As you refine your company’s strategy in light of this news, the Department for Energy and Mining will keep you informed about the finer details of the lifting of border restrictions and any relevant transition arrangements for South Australia and other states and territories between now and Monday 20 July.

While this latest development is positive for the sectors’ future outlook, I urge all companies to remain vigilant in their COVID-19 controls so as not to undo the good work that enabled today’s announcement. I look forward to updating you next week with the results of our asymptomatic testing trial and the opportunities it can provide to companies.

Stay well.

Paul Heithersay
