News release: Hon Tom Koutsantonis, MP, Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy, Saturday 10 June 2017.

A range of information sheets are now available to the public in response to the many submissions made to the ongoing review of South Australia’s mining laws.

Submissions from more than 130 groups, landowners, operators, consultants and MPs canvassed a broad range of topics such as compliance, transparency and the environment.

After being thoroughly reviewed, the submissions are available on the Leading Practice Mining Acts Review page of this website.

The two Fast Facts documents and 20 Policy Directions documents summarise the initial response to the key topics raised in many of the submissions received during the review’s public consultation.

The South Australian Government is conducting the most comprehensive review of the State’s three major mining laws ever undertaken, to ensure our legislation leads the nation.

As part of the Leading Practice Mining Acts Review, a six-month public consultation process sought to elicit the views of landowners, industry, regional communities, explorers and mine operators.

In response to the issues raised by the South Australian public, a series of booklets and information sheets have been produced to encapsulate the responses under consideration as part of any law changes.

Some submissions raised specific compliance issues related to ongoing exploration and mining activities and these matters have been addressed in one of the booklets.

Quotes attributable to Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis
I welcome the next stage of this important community conversation that will be used to guide the legislative response to the many issues raised in these submissions.

It was great to see how well the community engaged with this process, with more than 130 submissions received from industry groups, landowners and community leaders.

To ensure the review process remains open and transparent, submissions are now available to the public online along with a series of booklets and information sheets that summarise the State Government’s initial response to your feedback.
