Oodnadatta Renewable Power Station project

Apex Energy Australia delivered a renewable energy station in Oodnadatta, one of South Australia’s most remote towns, after a critical generator failure left the community without power during extreme heat. Commissioned under the state’s Remote Area Energy Supply (RAES) program, the project aimed to improve energy reliability, reduce diesel reliance and deliver a long-term solution for the town’s essential services. Apex led the project from design and manufacturing through to installation and commissioning, overcoming significant logistical challenges and sourcing 38% of non-skilled labour from the local community. The final system includes 569 kilowatts of solar generation, 1.1 megawatts of battery storage and a diesel backup for resilience.

Completed in March 2025, the project has delivered a cleaner, more stable energy supply and set a new benchmark for collaboration between government, industry and community in remote energy infrastructure.
