The Department receives and archives comprehensive data and reports for every petroleum and geothermal well drilled in South Australia. This includes offshore wells drilled prior to 2012, when responsibility for offshore petroleum exploration greater than 3 nautical miles from the coast passed to the Commonwealth under the Offshore Petroleum & Greenhouse Gas Storage Act. Data that are maintained by South Australia are published 2 years after the rig is released from the well.

Well location data is published via multiple channels:

Detailed well data are made available to stakeholders via the Department’s online portals SARIG and PEPS South Australia, and also on request via DEM.petroleum@sa.gov.au
