Amending the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act
A new draft Bill to amend the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 (the PGE Act) has been prepared and was put out for consultation in late 2022. The majority of amendments were consulted on during 2021 but did not reach Parliament before the change of government.
The bulk of the proposed changes to amend the PGE Act are improvements to efficiency, clarity and transparency of existing regulatory processes.
Notably hydrogen generation provisions which were included in the 2021 draft Bill have been removed - these provisions are now proposed for inclusion in the South Australian Government's separate legislation to licence and regulate hydrogen energy.
