The Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA) offers geoscientific information in a wide variety of options including data services. Data services allow you to connect directly to our server to display a geographic map or query geographical features to select and retrieve the data you need. GSSA data services are based on web service protocols – WMS and WFS.
To ensure our data continues to be readily accessible for knowledge discovery, integration, analysis and innovation, our data services and metadata support and meet the FAIR principles. GSSA data services are open government services and licenced under Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0). Where possible, persistent identifiers and related data links to other metadata references are offered.
Data services standards include:
- Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)
- International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO)
- International Union of Geology Sciences – Commission for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information (IUGS CGI)
- Australia–New Zealand Government Information Committee (GGIC)
Use of data services
To utilise web service protocols it is recommended that you seek your software vendor support and/or tutorials as various software (and software versioning) can offer different connection methods and recommendations for web service types. For example QGIS 3.3 Web Feature Service (WFS), QGIS 10.0 Lesson: Web Mapping Service.
Tip: If you are having issues viewing a service connection in ArcGIS Pro, check you have selected the correct version (e.g. 1.1.1) from the version drop down, not “default version”.
