The Mining Registrar is required by law to keep a register of:

  • registered mineral claims
  • leases and licences issued under the Mining Act
  • private mines
  • instruments registered under the Mining Act.

A distinct part of the Mining Register must be maintained as the Mining Native Title Register for the registration of agreements and determinations under that part of the Mining Act.

Documents are registered on the Mining Register in line with the Mining Act, Mining Regulations and DEM’s minerals transparency policy.

Searches of the Mining Register are free. Some components of the Mining Register are considered confidential and are not available for inspection. Departmental files are not part of the Mining Register and the files and their contents are not public information.

A search of the Mining Register may be undertaken online, through the South Australian Mining Register online search.
