BHP is focused on the resources the world needs to develop and decarbonise, including copper, nickel, potash, iron ore and metallurgical coal for the steel needed for global infrastructure and the energy transition.
Program: Olympic Dam village accommodation and transport experience

Olympic Dam (OD) needed to revitalise their transport and village facilities for their workforce and the Roxby Downs community to improve safety and security, and uplift facilities for 'everyday experiences' in support of an inclusive and diverse workforce.
Partnering with ‘Creating Communities’ consultancy, BHP undertook a series of large-scale voice of customer surveys with the workforce to identify a baseline of customer satisfaction, which was used to prioritise the improvement program of works and then validate the impact of those improvements on their customers.
In collaboration with BHP teams and contracting partners, BHP delivered a program of works including:
- OD aerodrome upgrade, introducing jet aircraft for the workforce and regional community
- Village security upgrades, including DDTV, duress alarms, improved lighting, wayfinding, room upgrades and access controls
- Village WIFI upgrades, supporting connectedness to friends and family and in room entertainment
- Village dining room upgrades, transforming 'mess halls' to modern 'cafés', and providing nutritious and culturally and dietary inclusive food
- Partnering with Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation to provide a new Village Yarning Circle
The changes have lifted the expectations of the workforce, raising the bar for inclusion and wellbeing across industry, enhancing the experience for our residents and supporting lifestyle choices.
