The Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment (ABBA) has supported development of the bioenergy network across Australia.

The ABBA project provides a national database of biomass resources for bioenergy project support.

AgriFutures Australia (formerly Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC)) is developing the first central and national source of biomass resources which includes information about the types, volumes and locations of potential bioenergy feedstocks in each state. Interactive tools are also being developed, providing investors with support for decision-making and assistance with feasibility studies.

AgriFutures is working with states and territories to collect, collate and present information through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) supported Australian Renewable Energy Mapping Infrastructure (AREMI) interface, a central source for renewable energy mapping data and information now available from the NationalMap online portal.

View the AREMI data at NationalMap under Energy > Renewable Energy > Bioenergy.

The project will enable better links between biomass suppliers and end users, supporting local businesses to get more value from organic material destined for landfill, disposal or other low value uses by improving information access and quality.

The AREMI platform will enable AgriFutures to geospatially map existing and projected biomass resource data alongside other parameters such as existing network and transport infrastructure, land use capability and demographic data.
