South Australia has rich and diverse land resources suitable for multiple land uses. The Department for Energy and Mining is committed to ensuring that the state’s resources are developed in a way that balances environmental management, economics, science, land access and stakeholder engagement.

Communities are at the centre of the energy and mining sectors and should be involved in the decisions that affect them.

Companies must comply with all relevant legislation, standards and operating conditions. This includes specific native title and Aboriginal heritage protections.

DEM subscribes to the South Australian government’s Better Together engagement principles and encourages companies in the energy and mining sectors to engage with local communities early, in a transparent and respectful manner, and keep doing so throughout projects. Following these principles will help to establish and maintain healthy working relationships that are likely to result in lower project risks and better outcomes for both companies and communities.
