Adelaide will host a festival of geoscience ideas beginning late November.

With mineral exploration activity in South Australia reaching new highs, the week will be a great opportunity to gain the competitive advantage that knowledge brings to any geoscientific program. Data is out there and is always being gathered, but new knowledge can help put data into perspective and reveal new insights, for better outcomes.

With 3 major conferences happening in Adelaide, the week of the 28 November to 2 December 2022 will be a fantastic time to get up to speed on the latest geoscience.

For the Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA), Discovery Day is the main opportunity to showcase the projects we have been working on during the year. We will cover a lot of ground with topics including new insights from GSSA’s recently completed MinEx CRC drilling program in the Delamerian Orogen, to new thinking on the mafic rocks from the western Gawler Craton, University of South Australia’s pioneering work using augmented reality for data visualisation, and a session dedicated to critical minerals research and data. Register now as bookings for this in-person only event are filling fast.

Both Geoscience Australia and CSIRO will be providing updates on their respective work in the Curnamona Province and on sedimentary copper projects in South Australia. Special guest OZ Minerals will also be presenting on the application of machine learning for exploration targets. Plus, we have a keynote speaker from the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Minerals Institute’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, Christine Charles, who will speak on best practice for social governance, a topic that is a foundation for successful geoscience and business.

More about Discovery Day

On 28 and 29 November, CSIRO is presenting Sub22, Deep Earth Imaging Future Science Platform’s biennial subsurface symposium. Sub22 will focus on how best to overcome the obstacles encountered on the journey from imaging structures to predicting processes associated with resource formation. The conference will cover petroleum, groundwater, minerals and hydrogen and provide a platform to contribute, discuss and learn about the interdependence between imaging, conceptualisation, and prediction for the exploration, characterisation and management of these resources. Sub22 will also comprise 2 post-conference workshops on 30 November: CoFI - A common framework for inference; and Forum on the Application of Rock Physics in Energy, Minerals and Groundwater Domains.

Finally on 2 December the South Australian Exploration and Mining Conference (SAEMC) will bring everything together as the geoscience industry showcases the advances made in the last year in projects across South Australia. The diverse range of projects that will be covered and the range of commodities now being targeted for, characterised and mined across South Australia means this year’s SAEMC will be full of energy.

We invite you to be part of the week and hope to see many of our colleagues in person, in Adelaide.
