Newly released guidelines support explorers to apply or undertake exploration activities.
The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) continues to update its regulatory guidelines to reflect amendments to the Mining Act 1971 and the Mining Regulations 2020 which came into operation on 1 January 2021. The Mineral Resources Division within DEM is responsible for administration and regulation under the Act.
The latest releases cover changes in relation to:
- the administration of exploration titles
- regulation of on-ground exploration activities, including environmental management and rehabilitation of land
- submission of statutory reports and associated data
- drill core and geological sample submission.
All explorers must be familiar with the rules and regulations under which they can apply for a mineral exploration licence and undertake exploration activities in South Australia.
The newly released guidelines are:
- MG33: Mineral exploration licences (PDF 426 kB). A new departmental guideline which covers the changes in relation to exploration licensing.
- MG22: Mineral exploration PEPRs and compliance (PDF 4.6 MB). Assists tenement holders on the requirements for conducting mineral exploration on a tenement including how to correctly prepare a program for environment protection and rehabilitation (PEPR). Updated.
- MG13: Mineral exploration reporting (PDF 641 kB). Assists tenement holders to prepare and submit exploration and geological data and samples. Updated.
- MG18: Drill core and geological sample submission (PDF 1.1 MB). Assists tenement holders on the requirements for drill core and geological sample submissions. Updated.
