South Australia's global leading hydrogen investmentSouth Australia's Premier Peter Malinauskas has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to invest $2 billion in hydrogen energy, which underscores the importance of South Australia’s world-leading plans for the renewable energy technology.

The Premier is currently overseas visiting Germany and the Netherlands on a trade mission focused on green hydrogen.

On Thursday, the Premier will address the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam about South Australia’s world-leading plans for green hydrogen.

In last night’s Federal Budget, the Commonwealth announced a $2 billion Hydrogen Headstart program, focused on investing in producing and exporting hydrogen energy.

The South Australian Government is forging ahead with plans to build a world-leading hydrogen power plant, electrolyser and storage facility in Whyalla. 

Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers specifically highlighted in his budget speech last night the opportunities of green steel production in Whyalla in South Australia.

A global market call for the State Government’s hydrogen plan has attracted 29 proposals from across the world, with a detailed and complex evaluation process now underway with a view to awarding contracts early in the second half of 2023.
